FOREST GROVE, Ore. – For the second time in the last eight days Junpei Tsuji scored an overtime goal to give the Whitman men's soccer team a 1-0 conference victory – this time at Pacific University. Last Saturday Tsuji broke a scoreless tie against Pacific Lutheran with a last second goal in double-overtime.

Today's victory over the Boxers improves the Missionaries' conference mark to 6-4-1 and puts them in third place in the standings; their overall mark is now 7-8-2. The Boxers fall to 1-9-1 in the NWC and to 6-10-1 overall.

Tsuji's fourth goal of the season came on a penalty kick in the third minute of overtime.

Up until then, the match had remained scoreless as the Missionaries outshot Pacific for the match 16 to 6. Seven of Whitman's shots were on-goal – three by Tsuji and two by Alex Barsher, who had two goals in yesterday's win over Linfield. Three of Whitman's shots came in overtime. The Boxers managed 3 shots on target for the match.

Stuart Ellsworth went the distance in goal for Whitman, picking up the win while making three saves.

The win is Whitman's second straight and third in its last four outings. The Boxers have lost their last four.
This is the fifth overtime match the Missionaries have played this season. Their record is 2-1-2 in extra periods.

Next Up: the Missionaries host Linfield and Willamette next weekend with both matches starting at 1:30 pm.
