FOREST GROVE, Ore. – After a scoreless first half, Pacific University tallied four goals in the second stanza on its way to a 4-0 win over Whitman in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match this afternoon, hosted by the Boxers.
The loss drops the Missionaries to 8-9 on the season and 4-9 in conference. Pacific improves to 8-5-3 overall and 5-5-2 in the NWC.
The Boxers grabbed the lead just two minutes into the second half when McKenna Davidson received a pass and scored from within the box. Davidson scored her second goal of the game and ninth of the season three minutes later on a penalty kick.
Pacific stretched its lead to 3-0 at the 53:15 mark on a rebound goal. After a throw in, Kara Lankey fired a shot off the post. The ball stayed in play and Lankey got her own rebound and put it in the net.
Lankey scored the final goal of the match with twenty minutes remaining – a 25 yard boot after receiving a through ball. The goal was Lankey's twelfth of the season.
Whitman actually outshot the Boxers 10 to 7. Four of the Missionaries' shots were on-goal. Five of the Boxers were on target.
The loss is Whitman's fourth straight and fourth consecutive match without a goal. It was Pacific's first win in its last five matches – the Boxers were coming off a 2 overtime tie.
Next Up: Whitman hosts Lewis & Clark and Willamette next weekend with both matches starting at 11 am.
