Box Score TACOMA, Wash. -- Whitman battled first place Puget Sound in men's soccer this afternoon at the Loggers home field, playing ninety minutes of scoreless ball before Puget Sound won on a penalty kick four minutes into overtime.
The loss is Whitman's first in conference and puts them at 3-1-2 in the NWC (3-5-2 overall). The Loggers improve to 5-0 in the NWC and 7-3 on the season.
The Missionaries had entered the game on a three-game winning streak and had scored 8 goals in their last two contests. But the Loggers defense proved formidable, allowing the Whits only two shots on-goal the entire match.
The Loggers played the last 60 minutes with only 10 players as Logger Oliver Field was awarded a red card in the 33rd minute.
Carson Swope scored the penalty kick for UPS. Swope was fouled inside the box. His goal was the first shot by the Loggers in overtime.
Whitman, actually, outshot UPS but the Loggers managed 3 on target.
Stuart Ellsworth played all 94 minutes in goal for the Whits, making two saves.
Whitman is tied for third place in the NWC with Whitworth while UPS is the only tea without a loss or tie and sits atop the standings at 5-0.
