Alissa Soo scored the second-half equalizer and goalkeeper
Haley Case finished with three saves Saturday at Pacific University where visiting Whitman College and the host Boxers settled for a 1-1 double-overtime tie in Northwest Conference women's soccer action at Hanson Stadium.
The Missionaries (4-2-1, 2-0-1 NWC) remain unbeaten in league play while Pacific moves to 4-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the conference.
Early action saw Whitman's
Naomi Lee get off the first shot of the game, driving a scoring chance on frame in the game's third minute only to have Pacific goalie Kristina Morris come up with the save.
The game's initial goal came during a frantic 23rd minute. The Boxers' Lucy Almao hit the crossbar with her shot and the loose ball was gathered in by Kamryn Plechot who also got off a shot but one that was blocked by a Whitman defender. The rebound ended up in the goal box where Pacific's Deanna Quadrel gathered it in and pushed it into the back of the net for her first goal of the year.
Soo would get a shot off late in the half but Morris came up with the stop to allow the home team to enter halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Pacific owned the first minutes of the second half, racking up three consecutive shots in the 53rd minute. The first was high but the next two forced saves from Case who kept the Missionaries within one score with her pair of stops.
Whitman took its turn dialing up the pressure next as a corner kick in the 57th eventually led to a shot from
Clara Merlino that sailed a bit high. Another corner chance in the 62nd turned into the equalizer with Soo completing the set piece.
Lena de Guzman served the ball into the box where Lee was able to gain possession and then work free deep in the zone. Lee found Soo who was near the goal line and the first-year player tapped in a shot for her second goal of the year.
Nether team mustered up the winning score over the final 29 minutes of regulation forcing overtime on a cool but sunny day.
Alissa Soo nearly ended the game for Whitman at the end of the first overtime but her shot at 98:30 was saved by Morris.
The game nearly came to a dramatic end ahead of the second-overtime horn as the Missionaries'
Brianna Brown got off the game's last shot on frame but once again Morris was there to rescue her Pacific teammates with her sixth save of the contest.
Whitman continues Northwest Conference play Sunday with a noontime game at Linfield College.
