Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Gregg Petcoff

Van Wetter's goal pulls Whits even at George Fox

NEWBERG, Ore.  Eliza Van Wetter notched her first collegiate goal and Haley Case came up with 11 saves to tie her single-game career best as Whitman College's women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw in double-overtime Saturday against host George Fox University in Northwest Conference action at the Austin Sports Complex.

The results shift Whitman's record to 0-8-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the league while George Fox moves to 1-5-2 and 1-2-2, respectively.

Van Wetter's goal came in early in the 44th minute as the first-year converted a corner-kick chance, beating Bruins goalkeeper Morgan Bars with the long ball. The set piece was the only corner kick of the opening half by Whitman.

That goal was the equalizing tally after Fox had broken in front late in the 30th on a score from Hannah Harder.

Case proved to be one of the busiest players on the pitch Saturday. The senior came up with four saves in the first half, three in the second, three more in the initial 10-minute overtime period, then one more in the final extra period. For the game George Fox generated 30 shot against 14 by the Whits, and of Fox's attempts 12 made it on frame compared to seven from Whitman.

Whitman returns home for its next game action, welcoming Linfield College to the Whitman Athletic Fields at noon Saturday, followed by another noon-time match Sunday against Pacific (Ore.) University.
