SPOKANE, Wash. Â
Allie Seracuse registered a career-best nine saves for Whitman College, but the Corban University attack was ultimately able to sneak two shots behind her in the Warriors' 2-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over the Blues at Omache Field on the campus of host Whitworth University.
Whitman drops to 0-4 overall while Corban evens its season mark to 3-3 with the victory.
The Blues' attack was held in check throughout the opening 45 minutes of action, with Seracuse keeping the Warriors at bay with three saves. Corban scored late in the half, however, to carry a one-goal lead into the halftime break.
Sofia Ellington provided the best chance at an equalizing goal for Whitman in the second half, striking a shot on frame in the 59th minute only to have Corban goalkeeper Sheyenne Brusven come up with the save to keep the Blues off the scoreboard.
The Warriors added an insurance goal in the 77th then packed in their defense to sweep away Whitman's remaining trips into its attacking third, preserving the now two-goal advantage for Corban.
The visit to Spokane concludes the non-conference portion of the 2017 slate for Whitman, which leaps into Northwest Conference competition with a home game Saturday against Lewis & Clark College. Another league match, against Willamette University, follows on Sunday afternoon.
