SALEM, Va. The
Tim Howell era -- perhaps one of the most celebrated eras in program history -- came to its conclusion Saturday at the Salem (Va.) Civic Center as the senior closed out his four-year career wearing the Whitman colors in the NABC/Reese's Division III All-Star Game.
One of the two representatives from the West District selected for the national contest, Howell pulled on his blue Whitman #23 one last time and dished out five assists, tied for game-best honors, while scoring 12 points for a West All-Stars squad that fell short of victory in the East's 120-114 win.
The high-scoring affair Saturday at the Civic Center preceded the NCAA D-III national championship game scheduled for later in the evening between Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Howell's illustrious career includes 1,890 points which lifts him into second place on Whitman's all-time scoring list.
With Howell on the roster, Whitman over the past four seasons compiled a record of 104-14 for a winning percentage (81.3 percent) that trails only D-I's Villanova (Pa.) University and equals Gonzaga University's over that same time span.
The Blues, during Howell's junior season, posted a perfect 16-0 league mark and won the Northwest Conference tournament to achieve the first unbeaten season in conference history. This season Whitman again went unbeaten in league play during the season and in so doing, established a new NWC record for consecutive regular-season conference wins, 40 games, dating back to the 2015-16 schedule.

A trip to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2016, Whitman's first tournament appearance, was followed by advancement to the 2017 Final Four. In both instances the team that ended Whitman's run went on to win the national championship game.
This winter Howell and the Blues played their way into the Elite 8 where Nebraska Wesleyan ended the Whitman season.
Along with his All-Star game selection, Howell has also garnered postseason honors from the NABCÂ as a second-team All-West District player and as a second-team D3hoops.com All-West Region honoree.
Howell has also advanced through the Top 100 and Top 50 Watch Lists of the 2018Â Bevo Francis Award, presented by Small College Basketball, to earn a heralded spot on the organization's Top 25 Watch List.
