Men's Soccer Shuts Out George Fox, Remains Perfect In League Play

NEWBERG, Ore. - Two games, two shutouts, two conference wins. The Whitman College men's soccer team kept its solid start to the league season going with a 2-0 road win against George Fox on Sunday.

Erik Nielsen's goal less than one minute into the game proved to be all the scoring the Blues would need. Whitman (3-3, 2-0 NWC) keeper Owen Davis-Bower posted two saves in each half for the clean sheet. Nielsen took a pass from Jimmy Jacobson on the flank and ripped a shot right underneath the crossbar.

CJ Fritz added an insurance goal before halftime to put the Blues up by two goals in the 32nd minute. Fritz scored off a corner kick from Oscar Harding.

In the second half, the Bruins would increase their pressure on the Whitman defense. Trevor Martin's header on goal in the 55th minute could have gotten George Fox (1-5, 0-2 NWC) back into the game but it couldn't find the back of the net.

George Fox keeper JD Ellis posted two saves along with giving up the two Whitman goals.

The Blues return to action on Saturday, Sept. 22 for their home opener, playing host to Pacific Lutheran at 2:30 p.m.
