KIRKLAND, Wash. –
Jimmy Jacobson and
Erik Nielsen both netted first-half goals to lead the Whitman College men's soccer team to its first win of the season, a 2-0 defeat of Northwest University Saturday at NU Athletic Field.
The game was the first of a two-match swing in western Washington which finishes tomorrow at Evergreen State.
The Blues (1-2) dominated the game with 21 shots compared to four for the Eagles (1-1-1). Blake Dornay made two saves and gave up the two first half goals for Northwest with Noah Roberts keeping a clean sheet in the second half and posting three saves.
Matt Reich played the full 90 in goal for the Blues, making three saves while earning the shutout.
Jacobson was active all match with five shots for the Blues including his goal in the sixth minute of the game.
Oscar Harding was credited with an assist on what proved to be the game winner.
Nielsen later gave Whitman some early cushion with his goal in the 28
th minute.
