Blues Rebound For 3-1 Win At George Fox

NEWBERG, Ore. - After a difficult home loss to PLU this past Sunday, the Whitman College men's soccer team rebounded with a quality 3-1 win over George Fox in Northwest Conference play on Friday at the Austin Sports Complex.

The Blues (6-5, 3-2 NWC) saw three different players find the back of the net including Jourdan Furukawa's penalty kick and fifth goal of the season. Owen Davis-Bower, who has become a mainstay in net for the Blues, made five saves in a full game of work.

Furukawa netted the game's first goal when he converted his PK in the 28th minute. The Bruins (3-7-1, 0-5 NWC) tied up the game just under six minutes later. Solek Ashkinos beat his defender, cut the ball inside then finished past Davis-Bower for the equalizer.

Oscar Harding scored just before halftime in what proved to be the gamewinner for the Blues. Harding converted on a set piece in the 43rd minute to give Whitman a 2-1 lead at the break.

Jacob Barsher gave the Blues some insurance with his goal in the 67th minute. He played a give and go with Joe Wally and found the back of the net past Bruin keeper Cole Benton. Benton started and played into the second half before being spelled by Richie Seaman in the 71st minute.

Whitman looks to keep it rolling with a visit to Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday, Oct. 6. The Blues and Boxers kickoff at 2:30 p.m.
