WALLA WALLA, Wash. - After being named as one of 16 hosts for the 2019 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, the Blues (26-1) are set to open the first round on Friday against Texas Lutheran (18-9). Lurking on the other side of the bracket is the other Texas school, UT Dallas (24-4), and Pomona-Pitzer (25-2) who handed the Blues their only loss this season.

Whitman, the nation's second-ranked team, enters the game after running the Northwest Conference table for the third straight season and winning the league tournament for the second time in three years. The Blues have one of the nation's most high-octane offense but also feature a national caliber defense. As a team, Whitman ranks third nationally in both offense (104.9 ppg) and steals (14.1) and have beating opponents by a nation-best average of 24.1 point per game.

Texas Lutheran, out of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, finished league play as co-champions then earned the SCAC's NCAA automatic qualifier after a double overtime win over the University of Dallas. It was the program's fourth league tournament crown and fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament. While statistically not as impressive as Whitman's, the Bulldog offense is predicated by the three pointer as they ranked 29th in three point field goal attempts.

Pomona-Pitzer and UT Dallas tip off at 5:30 p.m. with Whitman and Texas Lutheran scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time.

Tickets for Friday's doubleheader and Saturday's second round game will go on sale Thursday from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and can be purchased inside the ballroom at the Reid Campus Center on the Whitman College campus. Whitman College students may continue to pick up their tickets using their WID card.

These prices are per day - One ticket gets admission for both the Friday games, the other ticket for Saturday's single game.
