Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls At Christopher Newport

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Whitman College men's soccer team hoped to return home from the east coast with a split but would be unsuccessful in that effort, falling 3-1 at Christopher Newport, Saturday evening in the final game of the Steve Shaw Classic.

CNU scored early then sealed the game with a late goal to put its early record at 2-0. With the loss, the Blues fall to 0-2. After falling behind by two goals, Adam Reid netted Whitman's lone goal in the 79th minute to give the Blues a chance. Reid found the ball at his foot on the right flank after a failed CNU clearance on a Whitman corner kick. He served the ball back into the box which ended up skirting past Captain keeper Justin Piercy and into the goal.

Reid's goal proved not to be enough as CNU goals in the seventh and 72nd minute were all it would need. Will Collins scored the early goal off a service from Jordan Boone. The one-goal lead stood for quite some time until Chris Garbarini scored to put CNU up two. Davis Pillow's goal in the 87th minute all but sealed matters.

Owen Davis-Bower allowed the three goals while making four saves in 90 minutes. For the Captains, Piercy played a full 90 as well, making two saves in the process.

The Blues return home but will continue their early season road schedule with games on Friday (UC Santa Cruz) and Saturday (Carroll College) at the Whitworth Puma Classic.
