Women's Soccer Rallies To Top Linfield On Senior Day

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Lindsey Honhart scored the equalizer, Lise Arrouye provided the late game winner and the Whitman College women's soccer team rallied for a 2-1 Senior Day win over Linfield in Northwest Conference on Sunday at Hayner Field.

"I am absolutely thrilled for the team. What a win!!" said coach Michelle Voiland. "I am so happy we could send our seniors off with a victory. Coming back from a goal down, the team never gave up, they lifted the level and fought until the end for those points and the victory. A well deserved win!! Time to celebrate." 

The Blues (9-5-3, 8-4-1 NWC), looking to move up in the standings before season's end, trailed for most of the match before peppering the Linfield (3-4-3, 2-4-2 NWC) goal in the final 15 minutes leading to a pair of goals.

Honhart's goal came by way of an assist from Camryn Pettenger-Willey in the 80th minute. Just outside the penalty area, Honhart lifted a shot to the left upper left corner which hit the crossbar and bounced on to the back of Linfield keeper Emma Mulligan. Mulligan, unaware of the turn events, finally located the ball but not before it trickled into the back of the net.

Linfield countered shortly after, slipping a ball past the Whitman defense which trickled past the end line. The Blues continued to pressure the Wildcat defense before breaking through and taking the lead in the 88th minute. Virginia Hunt won a strong tackle at midfield and played Arrouye at the top of the box. Arrouye, after a series of moves, struck a shot over Mulligan's outstretched arm and into the back of the net.

Whitman had much of the possession but trailed at halftime. In the 27th minute, Riley Omonaka finished past Hannah Hagler in the net for the Blues for Linfield's lone goal.

The Blues hit the road for their final two games, first at Lewis & Clark on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 11:00 a.m.
