Men's Basketball Tops Dallas In Road Affair

IRVING, Texas - Ale Efe Isik and Aidan von Buchwaldt spearheaded an impressive bench effort with career highs of 21 and 18 points, respectively, leading the Blues to an 85-81 win over the University of Dallas on Wednesday night.

Jander Cline and Jai Deshpande made their presence known as well. Cline dropped 18 points on 7-11 shooting and 4-5 from three, and Desphande chipped in 17 points and three steals.

Jack Boyle and Johnny OImstead led Dallas both with game highs of 23 points.

The early moments were not promising for the Blues. Dallas had the hot hand going nine of their first 10 field goal attempts to take a 20-11 lead after six and half minutes.  The Blues kept themselves in the game with their three-point shooting, with Desphande and Cline knocking down triples early. Nevertheless, Whitman found themselves in a 14-6 hole with the game not even five minutes old.

The Crusaders continued to lead but Whitman began to chip away. Efe Isik converted an and one three point play and Isaiah Amato hit from the floor to whittle to lead to 32-30 with four minutes to play in until halftime. Dallas reclaimed the momentum however and took an eight-point lead into the break.

The second half again saw Dallas jump on the Blues with Olmstead knocking down a three ball to extend to his team's largest lead of the game at 49-37. Once again the resilient Blues responded as von Buchwaldt and Cline drained three pointers and made it a 51-48 score with 15:51 to play.

Whitman came all the way back moments later when Grant Hunt stole a pass, found Amato who then fed Efe Isik for a transition bucket to tie the game at 56-56. Boyle regained the lead with a basket but Efe Isik grabbed it right back for the Blues with a three pointer, giving them a 59-58 lead and one they would never relinquish.

Down the stretch, with Whitman holding a slim lead, Cline hit from three to put the Blues up 74-70 with 2:44 to play. Whitman made its free throws late and sealed the win
