Men's Soccer Takes Down George Fox In Season Finale

NEWBERG, Ore. - Sawyer Valero had a hand in three of his team's four goals, scoring one and assisting on two to help the Whitman College men's soccer team close the season with a 4-1 Northwest Conference win at George Fox on Sunday afternoon.

The win for the Blues put them at third in the final league standings with an 8-4-4 conference and 8-7-5 overall records.

Lucas McAllister got the Blues on the board early with a goal in the 19th minute. Valero, logging his second assist on the weekend and first of two on the afternoon, found McAllister who finished low and past Bruin keeper Keoni Gavino.

The game entered halftime with Whitman scoring the lone goal, but Pablo Gonzalez, Jr. increased the advantage in the 59th minute. Out of the back, he finished into the left side netting to put his team up 2-0.

Fox scored in the 70th minute to keep the game at hand, but two goals in a five-minute span all but sealed the win for the Blues. Sawyer found Edwin Romero in the 79th minute who finished past Gavino, then scored his first and the team's final goal less than five minutes later.

Bernie Jones posted four saves for the Blues on the afternoon and Gavino logged two.
