Men's Soccer Falls In Midweek Action At Whitworth

SPOKANE, Wash. - Jacob Burrill scored a late goal to give his team a fighting chance, but a victory once again eluded the Whitman College men's soccer team who fell to Whitworth 3-1 in Northwest Conference action on Wednesday night at Whitworth Soccer Field.

The Blues (8-5-2, 5-4-2 NWC) had hoped to close their five game conference road swing on a winning note, but the Bucs scored two goals in the first half and another in the 66th minute to put Whitman away.

Cole Friesen scored a pair of goals for the Pirates (7-6-2, 5-4-2 NWC), the first coming less than one minute into the second half to put his team up 2-0.

Jordan Voight added one goal and one assist. His goal in the 15th minute opened the scoring and his assist came on Friesen's second goal which all but closed the door on the Blues.

The Blues did have the lionshare of the chances however and were unlucky not to find the back of the net before Burrill finally put them on board with five minutes to play. Aiden Chase registered six saves for the Bucs with Lucas Haigh and Tait Whittemore combining for three saves in goal for the Blues.

Whitman is back home on Sunday, Oct. 27 when it hosts Linfield at 12:00 at Hayner Field.
