Swimming Sweeps Willamette In NWC Dual Meet

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College swimming teams closed the early portion of the Northwest Conference season with a bang, beating Willamette University with a pair of impressive wins on Saturday at Harvey Pool. The men's team won 157-44 with the Whitman women's squad topping the Bearcats 119.5-77.5.

The men's competition saw the Blues win 11 events including both relay races to start and finish the dual meet. The win was a total team effort as seven different Blues won individual events headlined by Andrew Tate and John Leeds each with a pair of top finishes. Tate won the 100 free (10:47.05) and 500 free (5:17.61), and Leeds topped the field in the 50 free (22.19) and 200 breaststroke (2:16.66). 

Leeds also joined teammates Peter Yamane, Kyle Milburn and Keenan Riggs Turpin to win the 400 medley relay (3:45.14).

The women's team won seven events en route to its dominant win. Anneliese Hanson led the way with a trio of wins. She topped the field in the 200 free (2:02.95) and 500 free (5:42.64) before closing the meet with a 400 free relay victory (3:48.91). Teammates Shaye Agnew, Bella Smith and Cassidy Monroe joined her in the relay win.

Agnew and Josephine Piel also won multiple events. Piel took top honors in the 200 IM (2:16.94) and 200 breaststroke (2:32.41) and Agnew, in addition to her relay win, won the 50 free (25.86).

Whitman next travels to Idaho for the Vandal Invitational to close 2024. The three-day event runs from Friday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 24.
