Swimming Teams Fall At Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. - The Whitman College swimming teams had hoped to close the weekend with back-to-back road wins, but it wasn't to be as both squads were soundly defeated by the University of Puget Sound on Saturday morning. Whitman fell 118-86 in the women's competition and 137-68 in the men's competition.

Neither squad won a relay race, but the day did see a handful of first-place finishes by both the men's and women's teams. The women's side saw four different Blues claim top honors. The Blues finished No. 1 and No. 2 in the 100 back which proved to be the most successful race for either team. Frances Lenz swam the event in 1:05.14 and Ella Tyroler placed second just behind her with a race time of 1:06.57.

Also winning races were Anneliese Hanson in the 200 free (2:04.24), Avery Riley in the 500 free (5:34.91) and Josephine Piel in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.79).

John Leeds led the Blues on the men's side who claimed his team's only first-place finishes. He won the 200 free with a time of 1:47.59 and the 100 free in 49.15.9. Whitman impressed in the 100 free as Keenan Tiddle came in second (49.40).

Whitman dives into its home opener next weekend hosting Linfield on Friday and Willamette on Saturday.
