Swimming Closes Day 2 of NW Collegiate Invite

BOISE, Idaho - Day two of the NW Collegiate Invitational came to a close on Saturday with both the Whitman College men's and women's swimming teams holding strong in their respective standings which includes Division I programs Idaho and Seattle U. The men's team sits at second in their three-team field and the women's squad is currently in third out of six teams.

Josephine Piel led the womens team's effort with a pair of individual event finals appearances. She placed seventh in the 100 fly (1:01.54) and sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.13). Anneliese Hanson was the highest finisher on the women's side with a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:58.44).

In her first season with the Blues, Avery Riley competed in a finals race for the second straight day with a sixth-place finish in the 500 free (5:16.44).

The men's squad opened the evening session with an outstanding performance in the 200 free relay. The team of John Leeds, Brodie Salzbrener, Ian McClelland and Keenan Tiddle finished fourth in the event with a race time of 1:26.59. 

Leeds later delivered an impressive showing in an individual event with a bronze finish in the 200 free (1:43.50). The 100 fly yielded two solid showings for the Blues as McClelland and Keenan Riggs Turpin finished fifth (52.17) and sixth (52.97), respectively.

Whitman closes out the meet on Sunday.
