Swimming Too Much For Pacific In NWC Action

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College swimming teams were dominant in every way, overwhelming Pacific in the both men's and women's competitions in Northwest Conference dual meet action on Friday night at Harvey Pool. The women's team won 148-43 and the Blues men's squad topped the Boxers 181-6.

Shaye Agnew led the way for the Blues in the women's competition. She won three events, the first coming in the opening race where she won the 400 medley relay (4:19.23) with teammates Rachel Sapper, Gwen Empie and Anneliese Hanson. Agnew later won the 50 free (26.34) and the 100 free (58.29).

Avery Riley and Josephine Piel also delivered multiple wins. Riley topped the field in the 200 free (2:03.50) and later the 500 free (5:26.24), and Piel won the 200 IM (2:17.15) and 200 breaststroke (2:30.07).

John Leeds and Kyle Milburn led the way on the men's side. Milburn joined teammates Collen Lokan, Keenan Riggs-Turpin and Ian Friedrich to win the 400 medley relay (3:50.90), then took top honors in the 200 IM (2:05.44). Leeds won a pair of races, first the 50 free (22.08) then the 100 free (48.23).

Whitman closes out the weekend against Lewis & Clark on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 11:00 a.m.
