Men's Soccer Wins Thriller At Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Whitman College's men's soccer team continued its impressive Northwest Conference run with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Pacific on Sunday afternoon at Hanson Stadium, preserving its undefeated record and maintaining their grip on first place in the standings.

The Blues and Boxers battled through a tense and frenetic 90 minutes that saw momentum swing with every goal. Lucas McAllister opened the scoring for the Blues (9-0-5, 8-0-2 NWC) midway through the first half after a clever setup from Pablo Gonzalez, Jr., pushing the Blues ahead 1-0. Pacific responded after halftime, tying the match courtesy of Cole Affolter, assisted by Nico Lomanto, sparking a lively exchange as both sides searched for the upper hand.

William Miranda-Ortiz restored Whitman's lead early in the second half, connecting off Riki Kobayashi's feed for a crucial 2-1 advantage. But Pacific refused to fade, with Aidan Pierias leveling the contest at 2-2 after an assist from Adam Landy, setting the stage for a nervy finish.

With just minutes remaining and the game knotted, Fernando Lopez-Vega delivered a moment of brilliance in the 83rd minute, finding the net off Alex Evans' assist for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

The Blues will work on short rest when they host Whitworth on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 5:30 p.m.
