Men's Soccer Draws With UPS, To Play PLU For League Title

TACOMA, Wash. - The Whitman College men's soccer battled to a hard-fought 0-0 draw with the University of Puget Sound on Saturday afternoon, setting up a dramatic conference title decider at Pacific Lutheran for Sunday's regular season finale.

Whitman's draw coupled with PLU's win over Whitworth gave the two teams identical point totals heading into their conference finale showdown. A Blues (13-0-6, 12-0-3 NWC) win would land them the program's first outright title since 1981.

Neither team could break through over 90 minutes, as Whitman and Puget Sound combined for 20 shots but were ultimately stymied by sharp goalkeeping and organized defenses.

Whitman's Niclas Isensee tallied three saves, while the Blues peppered Puget Sound's Luke Mamiya with 13 attempts, with Marcks, Evans, and Miranda-Ortiz each coming close at various moments.

Momentum swung throughout as both teams pressed for a goal - Whitman holding a slight edge in corners (6-4) and controlling possession in critical junctures.

The Blues and Lutes will square off at 1:45 p.m. which will surely be an epic match.
