Women's Basketball Throttles Walla Walla U

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. - The Whitman College women's basketball team delivered a commanding performance, defeating crosstown rival Walla Walla University 83-38 on Wednesday night.

The Blues held Walla Walla to just five points in the opening quarter, their lowest allowed in a single quarter this season, setting the tone for a dominant win. Emma Lena Baker and Kaella Peters both posted game and career highs with 18 points apiece.

Baker finished 8-of-14 from the field and added six rebounds, while Peters went 6-of-8 from the field, all coming from beyond the arc, while also grabbing five rebounds. The duo led a balanced Whitman attack that saw five players score in double figures. Briana Andrade was one point shy of a double double and finished with nine points and a game-high 11 boards.

Whitman jumped out to an early 22-5 lead after the first quarter, with Baker scoring eight points and grabbing four rebounds in just eight minutes of play. The Blues' defense smothered Walla Walla, forcing turnovers and limiting the Wolves to just one field goal in the period.

Whitman extended its lead to 39-15 by halftime, with Peters hitting two three-pointers and adding six points off the bench. Avery Neal also chipped in with three points, and Miriam Hutchens blocked a shot before scoring two points herself. Walla Walla struggled to find a rhythm, shooting just 26.7% from the field in the second quarter.

Whitman continued its offensive surge in the third quarter, outscoring Walla Walla 27-10, and never looked back.

The Blues have a quick turnaround before visiting Lewis-Clark State for their final game before tipping off conference play in January. The two teams tip off tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. in Lewiston, Idaho.
