WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College swimming teams had hoped to close the regular season on a winning note but came up short to Whitworth in Northwest Conference action on Saturday at Harvey Pool. The men's team fell 167-95 and the Blues women's squad lost 157-102.

Prior to the meet, the Blues honored their 12 seniors for their years of contribution to Whitman swimming with a special senior day celebration.

Josephine Piel led the way for the Blues in the women's competition with a pair of top finishes. She won the 200 freestyle (2:02.16) before topping the field in the 800 free relay (8:15.58) with teammates Avery Riley, Fraces Lenz and Annaliese Hanson. She also placed second (1:08.93) in the 100 breaststroke.

John Leeds and Kyle Milburn each won an event to lead the men's squad. Leeds topped the field in the 200 freestyle (1:46.49) and Milburn did the same in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.02).

Whitman now sets its sights on the big prize, the Northwest Conference Championship to be held Feb 13-16 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
