Women's Swimming Unofficially Wins 200 Medley Relay To Open NWC Championship

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - The Northwest Conference Swimming Championship kicked off on Thursday night with 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays.

The women's team won the 200 medley relay and the men's squad placed second in the 800 free relay. Three schools were unable to participate in the Day 1 events because of travel restrictions due to weather conditions and will make up the relay races to complete the results.

Frances Lenz, Rachel Sapper, Avery Riley and Shaye Agnew made up Whitman's winning 200 medley relay (1:48.05) team, edging Whitworth by only one one-hundredth of a second.

Riley and Lenz also placed second in the women's 800 free relay (7:47.25) with teammates Anneliese Hanson and Josephine Piel.

The men's side saw a second-place finish in the 800 free relay. The team of Brodie Salzbrener, Adrian Dulong, Keenan Tiddle and John Leeds swam the race 6:57.64

Competition continues on Friday with preliminary events beginning at 9:30 a.m.
