Swimming Concludes Day 3 of NWC Championship

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - With solid performances on both sides, the Whitman College men's and women's swimming teams closed Day 3 of the NWC Championships sitting at third and second, respectively. Both teams closed the gap with the men's squad jumping up one spot.

The women's squad narrowed the gap between them and Whitworth who remained in first heading to the final day. The day saw the Blues boast the top two finishes in both the 200 free and 100 breaststroke. Anneliese Hanson won the 200 free (1:54.68) and Avery Riley placed second (1:54.69). Josephine Piel took top honors in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.43) with Rachel Sapper posting a silver finish (1:05.60).

Shaye Agnew rounded out the effort with a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke (59.27).

In a total team effort, the Blues men's squad moved up a spot in the standings despite no top finishes. Two placed in the top eight in the 200 free which turned out to be Whitman's best race in terms of finishes. John Leeds placed third (1:42.25) and Adrian Dulong finished eighth (1:45.67)

All will be on the line as the Championships conclude Sunday with the prelims beginning at 9:30 a.m.
