Swimming Concludes NWC Championship With Riley, Blomme Earning Major Honors

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - The 2025 Northwest Conference Swimming Championship came to a close on Sunday with the Whitman College women's team placing second and the men third in the final overall standings.

The final day saw a handful of fine performances as both teams maintained their places in the standings. Avery Riley set a new Whitman record in winning the 200 fly (2:04.74) to cap a stellar week which concluded with her being named the NWC Women's Rookie of the Year.

Other hardware went to Whitman coach Jenn Blomme who was named Co-Coach of the Year, the ninth NWC women's coach of the year honor of her illustrious career.

The Blues were not far off of the title on the women's side, losing to champion Whitworth by only 45 points. The evening saw Riley and Josephine Piel both win a pair of events. Before Riley's record-breaking time in the 200 fly, Piel took top honors in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.30). Both of them teamed up with Anneliese Hanson and Shaye Agnew to win gold in the 400 free relay (3:31.23) to close the meet.

Also topping the field was Frances Lenz who won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:07.20.

The men's side saw another day of overall solid performances as they locked down a bronze finish in the final team standings. Keenan Riggs-Turpin had the best finish of the evening for the Blues when he placed third in the 200 fly (1:52.30). 

John Leeds and Kyle Milburn placed sixth (2:10.50) and seventh (2:11.85), respectively in the 200 breaststroke, and Keenan Tiddle placed sixth in the 100 free (46.38).
