SPOKANE, Wash. - The Whitman College men's basketball team took the floor for its fourth straight NWC Tournament championship game, but this time against a different foe. The Blues squared off against Lewis & Clark for the Northwest Conference title, but the Pioneers got the better of them in a 70-57 loss on Saturday night at Whitworth Fieldhouse.
The Blues knew they had their work cut out for them, playing a Pioneer team that knocked off host Whitworth just one night earlier. The shots did not fall in the same way as the night before against PLU as the Blues shot only 37% from the floor and 10% in three pointers.
Grant Hunt led four players in double figures with 16 points. Isaiah Amato chipped in 15 points and four steals and Ali Efe Isik added 12 points and five rebounds.
Sam Henderson led all scorers with 20 points off the Lewis & Clark bench.
The Pioneers won despite turning over the ball 19 times, but the Blues were only able to cash in 20 points off them.Â
L&C led most of the way until an Efe Isik and one three-point play put the Blues up by three points with 12:12 to play. The Pios erased the deficit with an 8-0 run and pushed the lead to double digits late in the game.
