Women's Soccer Plays Eastern Oregon To 2-2 Draw

La GRANDE, Ore. - Backed by a first-time goal scorer and steady play in net, the Whitman College women's soccer team picked up a 2-2 draw at Eastern Oregon on Sunday afternoon in the final non-conference regular season road game of the season.

First-year forward Emoree Lash made her debut a memorable one, finding the back of the net in the opening half for her first career goal. The Mountaineers struck back before halftime to level the score at 1-1, but the Blues quickly responded after the break. 

Gracia Larson provided what appeared to be the gamewinner, scoring just moments after halftime to put the Blues up 2-1. Whitman held the Mountaineers scoreless nearly the rest of the way, but Ashley Smith's goal in the 89th minute secured the draw.

In goal, the Blues relied on a two-keeper effort. Eleanor Johnson started the match strong, stopping four of the six shots she faced in the first half. After the break, Seanee Still took over and held Eastern Oregon scoreless until the final moments..

The all-around performance gave Whitman an early-season boost, combining a breakout debut from Lash, a decisive finish from Larson, and a composed defensive showing from both goalkeepers.

The Blues play one more game before kickoff Northwest Conference play. Whitman hosts Carroll College (Mont.) on Sunday, Sept. 14 11:00 a.m. at James Hayner Field.
