Alex Edwards joined the coaching staff of the Whitman men's basketball team prior to the 2016-17 season.
An Albany, Oregon, native Edwards last season worked as the video coordinator for the NCAA Division IÂ men's basketball program at Central Michigan University.
Prior to his year in the Midwest at CMU Edwards spent two seasons at the University of California, Davis in a similar role. In addition to overseeing the team's video needs he also managed the "Reading Program," the team's community-service project. With Edwards on the staff UC Davis captured it first Big West Conference championship in 2015.
Central High School, less than 30 miles from his hometown, is where Edwards' coaching career got its start. He served an assistant with the JV and varsity boys basketball programs at Central from 2010-13. The 2011-12 varsity squad won the 4A state championship with a 26-1 record.
Edwards earned his bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies in 2013 from Western Oregon University, then added a masters in athletic administration from Ohio University in 2015.
