WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- After opening its season with a victory over
Lewis-Clark State earlier in the day, the Whitman College men's tennis
team dropped a 7-0 decision to NCAA Div. I University of Idaho Saturday
afternoon in Lewiston, Idaho.
With Saturday's skirmishes in the books, Whitman takes a few
weeks off starting the Northwest Conference season on Feb. 6-7 with home matches against Puget
Sound and Pacific Lutheran in the Bratton Tennis Center.
Whitman, the defending NWC champion, has won 34 consecutive regular season matches against conference opponents.
Against Idaho, junior Christoph Fuchs and freshman Adriel Borshansky
pushed their opponents -- both from Australia --Â to three sets.
Fuchs fell 6-4 in his third set while Borshansky lost 10-6 in a pro-set
third set.Â
Fuchs also teamed with sophomore Quin Miller at
No. 1 doubles, where they fell 8-5 to Artem Kuznetsov, a junior from
Moscow, Russia, and Alexandru Joitoiu, a sophomore from Bucharest,
Romania.
