WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Whitman College posted impressive wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, but the University of Redlands picked off two close decisions in singles en route to a 7-2 victory Tuesday afternoon in Redlands, Calif.
Whitman, ranked No. 26 in NCAA Division III, saw its record slip to
14-4.
The host Bulldogs, No. 18 in the latest national rankings, improved
to 10-6.Â
Matt Solomon and Etienne Moshevich notched Whitman's victory at No. 1 doubles, edging Cameron Spearman and Anish Nanda 9-8 (8-6).Â
But Christoph Fuchs and Quin Miller lost 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, and Nadeem Kassam and Jeff Tolman fell 8-5 at No. 3.

Solomon got the best of Nanda 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match, and
Moshevich came within a few points of snaring another team point at No.
2. Spearman prevailed in that match, however, nipping Moshevich 6-2,
5-7, 10-7.Â
Chris Bailey also posted a strong effort in singles, losing 6-4, 7-5 to Jeff Hammond.
For Whitman, Tuesday's match completed a string of 11 matches in 12 days.
Whitman, the two-time NWC defending champion, is off until Friday and Saturday, April 2-3, when it hosts Pacific and Linfield in its last home matches of the season. It can clinch a third straight conference crown by winning those two matches.
Whitman completes its NWC regular season with two matches at Whitworth on Sunday, April 11.
The conference tournament, slated for Friday and Saturday, April 16-17, in Yakima, Wash., will determine the NWC's automatic entry into the NCAA Division III national tournament.
