Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Gregg Petcoff

Schwartz nets 2 in loss to Ducks

CLAREMONT, Calif.  Lindsay Schwartz scored twice and three others added one goal apiece, but that scoring output wasn't enough in Whitman's 19-5 loss to Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) in a neutral-site, non-conference women's lacrosse match Tuesday at Pomona-Pitzer College's South Athletic Complex.

The defeat evens the Blues' record at 4-4 while the Ducks remain undefeated with a 5-0 mark.

Stevens jumped in front early with three unanswered goals but Ellie Teare took a feed from Schwartz and buried her fifth goal of the season to cut into the deficit.

Another three-goal spurt by the Ducks increased their cushion before Schwartz knocked home and unassisted tally midway through the opening half.

Unfortunately that 6-2 deficit would be the closest Whitman would come as Stevens went on an eight-goal binge to finally put some distance between itself and the challenge from the Blues.

Olivia Engle would halt the Ducks' scoring streak at the 4:43 mark of the first with her fourth of the season, and Schwartz and Mary Noyes would add second-half goals.

Whitman gained the edge in draw controls, 15-11, but the turnover count would match the score as the Blues let loose of possession 19 times while Stevens turned it over only five. Sarah Myers earned the lone caused turnover for Whitman and also came up with a pair of ground balls.

Whitman is back in action Wednesday, taking host Pomona-Pitzer at 11 a.m. The Blues will conclude their trip into Southern California with Thursday's game at Whittier College.
