WALLA WALLA, Wash. Though
Luca Barsher's nimble goal proved the game winner, Whitman's Blues were the more dominant team across the whole of the 90 minutes in rolling to a 4-0 shutout victory Sunday over visiting Pacific (Ore.) in Northwest Conference men's soccer action.
Whitman (2-5, 1-1 NWC) racked up 15 shots compared to just four by the Boxers (4-2, 1-1), and had the better of play almost at will.
Beginning at the 10-minute mark the Blues began rolling downhill, registering seven shots to one until Barsha's marker in the 36th.
That opening goal came on a quick attack through the center with Barsher collecting the ball near the top of the box amid a pair of Boxer defenders. The sophomore danced right for a moment, drew the ball back across to the left beating one defender, then deftly flicked the ball back to his right for a quick blast that easily bypassed the stunned second defender and flew past Boxer goalkeeper Jack Orum who had been taken in by Barsha's original crossover.
Less than six minutes later it was
Jimmy Jacobson's turn on the dance floor.

A steal and quick counter-attack left Jacobson one-on-one with a defender who he spun through to put the Boxer on his back. That left Orum waiting on a shot that came too quickly and was slotted too perfectly for the netminder to do anything about other than pick himself up off the turf after a second Whitman goal.
In the second half,
Erik Nielsen lofted a header from into the top right corner in the 52nd for Whitman's third goal, and
Austin Betschart headed one from left to right off a corner kick opportunity for the final tally in the 68th.
Three different goalies saw action between the pipes for Whitman on the day.
Owen Davis-Bower started and came up with one save before giving way to first-year
Matt Reich in the 30th. Reich played the next 49 minutes and was the keeper of record when Barsha lit up the scoreboard, thereby earning the win.
Aidan Nuttall subbed in for the final 10 minutes and enjoyed a rather simple final minutes of the game as the Blues never let the Boxers drive deep enough to give Nuttall any work.
Whitman takes to the road next, heading to Tacoma, Washington, for a pair of NWC games, first against University of Puget Sound on Saturday and then at Pacific Lutheran University on Sunday.
