TACOMA, Wash. – Peter Stephens' equalizer in the 79th minute helped the Whitman College men's soccer team to a road result, a 1-1 double overtime draw against the University of Puget Sound in Northwest Conference action Saturday at East Field.
Matt Reich had a strong effort in goal for the Blues (7-6-1, 6-3-1 NWC), posting 10 saves while giving up the lone UPS goal in the second half. Logger keeper Wren Norwood recorded six saves in his full 110 minutes of action.
After a scoreless first half, UPS (5-5-4, 3-3-4 NWC) struck early after the break with a goal in the 48th minute. Angel  Herrera-Flores, assisted by Sean Hamel and Lincoln Schnell, scored what proved to be the Loggers lone goal.
The second half featured a handful of goal scoring chances on both ends. Whitman, after getting just two bids on goal in the first half recorded 13 second-half shots finally resulting in Stephens' equalizer.
The Loggers had several opportunities to win in the second overtime but couldn't break the tie as both teams walked away with a result.
The Blues play their road finally on Sunday when they visit Pacific Lutheran for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
