WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Whitman College women's soccer team had hoped to continue its momentum after last week's first road win but was unable to do so in a 6-2 loss on Saturday afternoon at the Whitman Athletic Fields. The match was Senior Day for sisters Sarah and Elly Fix along with
Kristin Brady,
Chelsea Day and Renee Van Bergeijk.
Whitman's goals came late in the match just minutes apart from each other.
Dani Espinoza got the Blues (4-12-1, 4-9 NWC) on the board with a bending set piece that found the far post side netting.
Esmeralda Galvan added another off a
Sarah Fix service but the match had all been decided with Linfield holding a 5-0 lead to that point.
Allie Seracuse made six saves for the Blues with Madi Reimer posting two for Linfield (9-3-5, 6-2-5 NWC).
Linfield opened the scoring just five minutes into the match when Ashley Guldager's service from the left flank found the head of Kristen Burke who scored past Seracuse.
The Wildcats struck again, scoring in similar fashion but this time from the left flank. Amidee Colleknon scored on a header off Michayla Sponsel's lofted service. Sami Moellmer capped the first half scoring, touching the ball past Seracuse on a breakaway and finishing to the far post.
Linfield made no doubt about the result with Sponsel adding a pair of goals just over four minutes apart late in the game.
The Blues return to action on Sunday versus Willamette. Kickoff at the Whitman Athletic Fields is set for 12:00 p.m.
