Schreiber Posts Season High Saves, Blues Draw With Bearcats

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Bryanna Schreiber delivered a spectacular performance in goal, posting a season-high 17 saves to help the Whitman College women's soccer team to a 1-1 overtime draw in the team's home finale, Sunday at the Whitman Athletic Fields.

The first half featured goals by both teams just 28 seconds apart from each other. After having the lions share of the possession, Willamette (11-3-3, 7-3-3 NWC) broke through with just under 10 minutes to play. Julia Fecteau followed up a save from Schreiber and slotted her shot into the back of the net to put the Bearcats up.

Just 33 seconds off the ensuing kickoff, Dani Espinoza rifled a shot outside of the box which beat Bearcat keeper Kristen Barclay to the upper left corner and tied the game in an instant. Willamette appeared to have taken the lead just before halftime. Rachael Moulton's free kick beat Schreiber to the near post but the goal was called back as the foul had been called an indirect kick.

Whitman (4-12-1, 4-9 NWC) and Willamette played to a very even and physical second half with neither team able to put one into the back of the net. Excellent saves by both keepers kept the second half scoresheet clean as the game headed to overtime.

Schreiber came up big for the Blues in both overtime sessions, tipping balls over the crossbar on a handful of occasions. Jordan O'Roy had a golden opportunity to score a sudden victory goal for the Blues just moments before the second overtime ended. A served ball skidded past the pack into the six-yard box to O'Roy but her shot was tipped over the bar by Barclay.

Barclay finished the match with five saves.

The Blues hit the road for their final two contests beginning with Lewis & Clark next Saturday, Nov. 3. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
