Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls To Montana Tech In OT

SPOKANE, Wash. - Mady Burdett scored 27 points, Makana Stone added 26 more to go along with a game-high eight rebounds but it came in a losing effort as the Whitman College women's basketball team dropped an 89-87 overtime heartbreaker to Montana Tech on Saturday.

Both teams shot north of 50% for the evening with Burdett's big night aided by 5-11 shooting from beyond the arc. Mesa Williams scored a game high 30 points for Montana Tech (7-1) with teammate Kaylee Zard adding 21 points.

The Blues (2-2) trailed much of the game including a four-point deficit with 1:43 to play in regulation. Burdett's layup cut the lead in half but Williams sank a pair of foul shots to push the advantage back up to four with 39 seconds to play.

Tech missed a pair free throws before Burdett brought the Blues to within a point when she nailed a three-pointer with seven seconds to play. Celestina Faletoi hit a pair of free throws to seemingly give the Orediggers the win, but Kaelan Shamseldin hit a three pointer to send the game into overtime.

The overtime session was just as tight as Kaylie McCracken's layup with 1:23 to play evened the score at 87-87. Neither team would score on their next possession but Mollie Peoples was good on the final one for Montana Tech, hitting a jumper as time expired to give her team the win.

Maegen Martin and McCracken both added nine points for the Blues who had to overcome a double digit deficit to even force overtime. The Diggers led by as many as 13 points in the first quarter before back-to-back Burdett jumpers shaved the lead to five points with 5:47 to play in the second quarter. A three pointer from Burdett and a Stone layup cut the Tech lead to four points in the third quarter and the game remained close the rest of the way.

The Blues return to Spokane next week for a Nov. 24 game against McMurry University.
