Blues Cap Season With Senior Night Sweep of Linfield

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Codie Conching and Brooke Randall shared match-high honors each with 11 kills to lead the Whitman College women's volleyball team to a season finale, Senior Night sweep over Linfield in Northwest Conference action Friday night at the Sherwood Athletic Center. Set scores were 25-11, 25-18, 25-19.

Prior to the match the Blues (10-14, 6-10 NWC) honored seniors Conching, Randall, Sierra Myers and Megan Henry for their years of contribution to Whitman volleyball. Also adding to the celebratory evening was Rebecca Johnston who served to start the second set, her first action since being diagnosed with osteosarcoma 15 months ago.

Claire McCarthy and Tate Cadang each contributed a team-high 10 digs with Cadang adding 15 assists for the double double. For Linfield (6-17, 1-14 NWC), Audrey Hyem and Regan Dean both had team highs of seven kills with Taylor Souza adding a match-best 17 digs.

After the Wildcats played the Blues even for the early part of the first set, Whitman caught fire and reeled off seven straight points to take a 13-8 lead and force a Linfield timeout. After the break the run continued and, following a Conching kill, the lead had swelled to 19-10. Randall's kill coupled by a Linfield service error sealed the deal and put the Blues up a set.

Set two featured more of the same, punctuated by a 7-1 run midway through the set. The Wildcats would rally though and cut the lead to 17-16 off a Hyem service ace. The Blues regained control though with Randall and Conching both getting in a block to cap a 4-0 run and seal the set two win.

The Blues would take care of business in the third set and complete the season winners of their final two matches.
