Women's Basketball Too Much For McMurry

SPOKANE, Wash. - Makana Stone scored a game-high 18 points on 8-12 shooting, Kaelan Shamseldin added 12 more and the Whitman College women's basketball team dominated McMurry University in an 83-57 defeat of the Warhawks on Saturday night at Whitworth Fieldhouse.

Maegen Martin added a game-high 10 rebounds for Whitman (3-2) who scored the game's first nine points to set the tone early. Skyler Reyna and Brittany Rodgers scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, to lead McMurry (0-4) with Autumn Johnson adding a near double double with nine points and nine rebounds.

The Blues saw contributions from a handful of players all over the floor en route to a 22-11 lead after the first quarter. Shamseldin's three pointer highlighted her team's 9-0 run to start the game with Stone, Natalie Whitesel and Katie Stahl all scoring inside and Lily Gustafson giving the Blues the double digit lead on a jumper with under a minute to play.

The Blues extended the lead before halftime. Whitesel opened the quarter with a three pointer and Stahl scored on a layup to put their team up 27-11. The lead swelled to as many as 19 points after a Kaylie McCracken layup and Whitman carried a 13-point lead into the break.

A 10-0 third quarter run put the game away for the Blues. Shamseldin and McCracken nailed back-to-back three pointers to give Whitman a 54-31 lead and the Blues never looked back.

The Blues tipoff Northeast Conference play next Friday, Nov. 30 at home against Pacific (Ore.). Start time at the Sherwood Center is set for 6:00 p.m.
