FOREST GROVE, Ore. Whitman scored on half of its shot during first-half action Friday evening and would go on to notch a 15-2 Northwest Conference women's lacrosse victory over host Pacific (Ore.) University on the Boxers' home turf at Ledbetter Field.
Nina Moore opened the scoring for Whitman (3-4, 2-1 NWC) with a goal at the 25:19 mark, and
Lindsay Schwartz would follow with the next two to elevate the Blues to a quick 3-0 lead over the host Boxers (0-7, 0-4) before nine minutes had been played.
By halftime Whitman led 10-0 -- scoring on exactly half of its 20 shots during the opening 30 minutes -- then found netting twice more to open the second half and forge a 12-0 lead over its hosts.
Roya Tahmassebi would break that string to get the Boxers on the scoreboard, and would later add her team's second goal, but by then the outcome had long been decided by Whitman's dominant attack and possession.
In all, eight different players scored for Whitman, including
Isabel Regonini (2) and
Anna Kilo who registered their first collegiate goals in the contest.
Schwartz led the Blues with three goals, but
Hannah Miller,
Sage Ali,
Olivia Engle, Moore and Regonini each added two apiece.
With two assists apiece, Moore and Ali posted four-point nights in the victory.
Goalkeeper
Kate Whittingham earned the win with six saves against just two goals allowed.
As a team, Whitman was able to dominate possession and racked up a 28-8 advantage in shots on goal. The hard work at ground level was also dominated by the Blues who built up a 49-34 advantage in ground balls.
Conference action for Whitman continues on Saturday with a 1 p.m. bout against host University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington.
