WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College women's volleyball team took the court for its annual Navy and Maize intersquad match with the Maize squad coming out on top 25-23, 25-19, 27-29, 25-18 Sunday at the Sherwood Athletic Center.

The Maize comfortably won the first two sets before the Navy staved off three set points in an exciting third set to push the match to a fourth frame.

Unofficial statistics were kept for the match with Elyse Benavides and Kalli Dickey for the Maise, and Megan Henry for the Navy all sharing match-high honors each with 14 kills. Benavides went error-free for the match hitting at a .483 clip while also adding 11 digs for a double double.

For the Navy, Codie Conching recorded nine kills to go along with a match-best 13 digs with Brooke Randall dominating at the net to the tune of 10 kills and a match-high nine blocks.

For the Maize, Rebecca Hall nearly recorded a double double of her own with 10 kills and nine digs.

The Blues take the court as one for their season opener on Friday, Aug. 31 against Mills (Calif.) at the Oregon Trail Classic. First serve is set for 9:30 a.m.
