COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Whitman College men's soccer team looked to kick off its opening weekend road trip but came up short in a 3-2 loss to Chapman in a neutral site game on Friday.
Â
Jacob Barsher netted the game's first goal, heading a flank service from
Jadon Bachtold past Chapman goalkeeper Evan Owens. Owens would play the first half before getting spelled at the break by Chandler Siemonsma. Both keepers would post four saves.
Â
Aidan Wall responded for the Panthers (1-0) with a pair of goals a little over three minutes apart, the second resulting from a long throw from Nick Rooney who was credited with an assist on the goal. Chapman would carry a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Â
The Panthers added to their lead in the 55
th minute when Javier Bernaldo's cross found the head of Kai Howe who promptly directed the service past Blues keeper
Matt Reich. Reich played the full 90 minutes for Whitman, posting one save and allowing the three goals.
Â
CJ Fritz scored just over a minute to get the Blues (0-1) right back in the game, but that would be it for both teams. Siemonsma kept a clean sheet for the rest of the match to help his team to the one-goal win.
Â
Whitman concludes the trip on Sunday, staying in Colorado Springs to play the University of Texas-Dallas. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m. MT.
