TACOMA, Wash. – The Whitman College women's soccer team saw its first win elude them in dramatic fashion, surrendering two late goals in a 2-1 loss to the University of Puget Sound in Northwest Conference action Saturday at Baker Stadium.
Sofia Ellington scored on a penalty kick midway through the first half which looked to stand as the gamewinner.
Bryanna Schreiber was keeping a clean sheet in net for the Blues (0-4-1, 0-1 NWC) until the Loggers finally broke through when Tess Peppis netted the equalizer in the 85
th minute.
Three minutes later, Sarah Nasson's cross found Lura Morton in traffic in front of the net, and Morton buried the gamewinner from eight yards out.
Schreiber would finish the afternoon with six saves as did Logger keeper Jamie Lange.
Puget Sound (2-3, 1-0 NWC) posted 21 shots including 14 in the second half when they began to pepper the Whitman goal.
The Blues continue their early NWC road swing with a visit to Pacific Lutheran on Sunday, Sept. 16. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
