Women's Soccer Draws With Willamette, 0-0

SALEM, Ore. — Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky made four saves to post a clean sheet, and the Whitman College women's soccer team outshot Willamette 15-6 in a 0-0 Northwest Conference draw Sunday afternoon at Sparks Field.

The Blues moved to 10-4-4 overall and 9-3-2 in NWC play with 29 points. Fourth-place Linfield has 22 points and can reach no more than 28, so the result guarantees Whitman at least a third-place finish. The Blues are one point behind second-place Pacific Lutheran with two matches left, and a second-place finish would be the program's highest since 1990.

Whitman has not lost in five straight matches (3-0-2). It is also the second straight weekend sweep without a loss, coming after Saturday's 3-2 win at George Fox.

The Blues controlled the ball from the start. They had 59% of possession and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. In the first half, Whitman put up nine shots to Willamette's one, but Bearcats goalkeeper Logan Hellyar stopped all four that were on target.

Avery Cohen led the attack with a team-high four shots, two on goal. She was stopped by Hellyar in the 22nd and 31st minutes. Leah Barnes tested Hellyar in the sixth minute, and Erisa Baba did the same in the 11th.

Whitman kept pushing late. Ellie Cortes-Muniz had a shot saved in the 67th minute. Nana Tanikawa had two looks in the 78th and 79th, and Claire Bryngelson and Alex McKean forced saves in the 81st and 84th.

Willamette (7-7-2, 5-7-2) made its strongest push in the final 15 minutes. Pasena-Littlesky turned away Aalia Patel in the 75th minute and stopped Natalie Rodriguez-De La Torre twice, in the 82nd and 87th, to keep the shutout. The back line of McKean, Kiki Glorioso and Cortes-Muniz played all 90 minutes.

Hellyar finished with seven saves for the Bearcats.

A final shift in the standings could come down to next Sunday's match as the Blues host Puget Sound on Friday and PLU in their season finale on Sunday.
