Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Saturday night's emotional four-set match was highlighted by many long rallies and standout performances by Whitman seniors. Sierra Myers recorded a career-high 10 blocks, Megan Henry and Codie Conching both had double digit kills, and Claire McCarthy had a team-high 16 digs as the Whitman College women's volleyball team lost to the University of Puget Sound Loggers on Saturday night at the Sherwood Athletic Center. Set scores were 25-18, 25-17, 23-25, 25-20.

The Loggers were led by Syndey Voss who had a match-high 19 digs, helped by Sarah Blumenfield, Alli Reviglio, and Jordan Holman who all recorded double digit digs.

The Blues went down early in the first 13-8, but a McCarthy ace and big kills by Brooke Randall and Henry gave the Blues an edge and tied the set 13-13. Neither team could maintain their energy for long enough to build a large lead, with both teams exchanging points back and forth. Long rally after long rally proved to be too much for the Blues, as the Loggers took set one.

The second set panned out similar to the first, with the Blues and the Loggers exchanging points early on. Whitman seniors showed up in the second, highlighted by five kills from Henry. Conching, who posted a double double with 11 kills and 13 digs, pitched in to help her senior class, along with Sierra Myers who had seven kills and a season-high 10 blocks. The Loggers took the second set and a 2-0 lead on the evening.

Henry picked up right where she left off and started the third set with a huge kill. A long break called by referees helped fuel the Loggers, who made a run in between kills by Henry and Randall. Elyse Benavides and Myers sparked Whitman with back to back kills followed by a McCarthy ace to give the Blues a small cushion. The Loggers took their first lead late in the set, but Myers and Conching sealed the deal for the Blues, who grabbed the third set.

The fourth set was a complete Blues block party that sparked a 9-0 run. The Loggers wouldn't give up easily as they clawed their way back and took the lead 20-18 and forced Whitman to call a timeout. Momentum swung back to the Loggers, as they took the win Saturday night 3-1.

The Blues take on Whitworth University in Spokane next Wednesday, October 3 at 6:00 p.m.
