Women's Basketball Dominates Linfield, Remains Perfect In NWC

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - Makana Stone delivered 12 points and 10 rebounds for her sixth double double of the season, Kaylie McCracken scored a game-high 18 points and the Whitman College women's basketball team remained atop the Northwest Conference standings with a 73-50 win over Linfield on Friday night at Ted Wilson Gymnasium.

The win keeps the Blues with an unblemished 5-0 league record while improving to 11-3 overall with their sixth straight win. Whitman dominated on both ends of the court, shooting a solid 44% from the floor while winning the rebound battle 55-33. McCracken added nine rebounds, just one shy of earning her first career double double.

Kory Oleson and Molly Danielson led the Wildcat effort. Danielson recorded a double double with 14 points and 12 rebounds while Oleson added a team-high 15 points.

Whitman dominated the opening quarter and led by 10 points entering the second. The Blues raced out to a 17-4 lead just past the midway point of the first quarter. Mady Burdett opened the game with a three pointer before Stone heated up, connecting on three straight midrange jumpers as part of an 11-0 Whitman run.

The second quarter saw the Blues push the lead to as many as 13 points after a Taylor Chambers jumper but Linfield would make a run before the end of the half though. Oleson's jumper with 3:30 to play ignited a run of nine straight Wildcat points, shaving the lead to six just before the break.

The Blues quickly restored order after the break. Kaelan Shamseldin drained a three pointer to kickstart matters, then jumpers from Burdett and Stone lifted the lead to 41-26 with 7:16 left in the period. The dominance continued with back-to-back jumpers and six straight points from McCracken as the Blues outscored Linfield 24-9 in the third quarter to take a 23-point lead into the final period.

The fourth quarter proved to be a formality as the Blues sprinted to the finish line in securing the 23-point win.

The Blues play the second of their back-to-back on Saturday with a visit to George Fox. Tip is set for 4:00 p.m.
