Women's Soccer Falls To Puget Sound

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College women's soccer team gave up three first half goals en route to a 4-0 loss to Puget Sound, Saturday in Northwest Conference action at the Whitman Athletic Complex.

Elly Wolfe had her hands full all afternoon, making several quality saves and coming off her line to thwart a handful of other Logger scoring chances.

Two of the UPS (9-3-1, 7-1-1 NWC) goals came off corner kicks with several other dangerous opportunities originating from set pieces. The Loggers got their first in the 10th minute when CeAnn Romanoggi's corner kick found the head of Kylee Roach who finished far post. The Loggers struck again in the 24th minute in near similar fashion. Romanoggi and Roach teamed up again, this time with Roach's header driven to the center of the goal just under the crossbar.

UPS added its third eight minutes later with combo play on the left flank. Tess Carden played a through ball behind the Whitman (1-11, 1-8 NWC) defense which Radhika Webster-Shultz ran on to. Her deflected shot found the foot of Gabbie Berg who finished far post.

Whitman had a chance early in the second half to get back into the game. Both Dani Espinoza and Sofia Ellington had bids on goal, but their shots went sailing over the bar.

Quincy Bento's goal from outside the penalty area in the 87th minute completed the scoring.

Whitman retakes the field on Sunday with a 12:00 p.m. matchup against Pacific Lutheran.
