Men's Tennis Drops 6-1 Defeat At Boise State

2/16/2019 3:00:00 PM

BOISE, Idaho - The Whitman College men's tennis team continued its early season stretch against Division I opponents, falling 6-1 at Boise State on Saturday at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center.

Playing Division I scoring rules, the stage was set for a Boise State win after the Broncos earned the doubles point with wins on both the No. 1 and No. 3 courts. Ben Kirsh and Daniel Foster fell 6-4 at the one to open the morning with Adam Rapaport and Rajul Chikkalingaiah losing to the Bronco (5-2) pair of Simon Stenlund and Stefan Lalovic at the three by the same score to clinch the point.

Alex Hwang and Andreas Mueller-Immergluck's two doubles match was left unfinished with the score at 4-4.

The Blues (0-3) competed well in singles play but their losses would all come via sweeps. Mueller-Immergluck, who ended up playing both doubles and singles, went undefeated on the day after claiming a 6-3, 6-3 straight-set win at fifth singles over Stenlund.

Mueller-Immergluck's win would come after the match had been decided however. The clincher came on the No. 3 court when Rapaport fell 6-3, 6-3 to BSU's Simon Arca Costas. Chikkalingaiah's loss on the No. 6 court was the closest of the match, a 6-4, 6-4 defeat to Lalovic.

The Blues will be off from dual match competition until Northwest Conference play in March, but the team now gears up for the ITA National Indoor Championship held in Cleveland, Ohio from Feb. 22-24.
