3/10/2019 8:33:00 PM

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Whitman College men's tennis team trailed after doubles play but rallied to notch an exciting 5-4 win at Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday at the Holce Tennis Courts to remain undefeated in Northwest Conference play.

Trailing by a point after doubles play, Adam Rapoport, then Ben Kirsh, notched straight-set wins on the No. 2 and No. 1 courts, respectively. Reyn Miyagawa then evened matters for Pacific (5-1, 1-1 NWC), who lost for the first time this season. He topped Alex Hwang at the three 6-3, 6-3 to make it a 3-3 score.

The Blues (3-6, 2-0 NWC) then took care of business on the bottom flights to nail down the win. Andreas Mueller-Immergluck won in straight sets 6-0, 6-4 on the No. 4 court over Quentin Gonzalez before Matthew Biggi took down Joey Hu 6-3, 7-5 at the five for the match clincher.

Derek Simonsen fell to Jonathan Chung in the only three-setter to close the day.

Whitman had some work to do after falling behind at the conclusion of doubles play. Hwang and Mueller-Immergluck opened with a win on the No. 2 court but the following two results went in favor of the Boxers. Rayden Murata and Koby Murata topped the Blues duo of Ben Kirsh and Daniel Foster at the one before Rapoport and Jacob Strabo dropped their No. 3 doubles match to give Pacific the 2-1 lead.

The Blues will play their first home dual match of the 2018-19 season this Saturday, March 16. Whitman hosts George Fox at 11:00 a.m. looking to keep its perfect Northwest Conference mark in tact.
